We believe that pro bono work is both a professional obligation and an essential part of our practice. Through our pro bono work, we provide valuable legal resources to indigent individuals and nonprofit organizations with limited access to legal services.

Our pro bono practice focuses primarily on the issues of equality and access to justice. For example, a team of DPK lawyers worked to achieve a precedent-setting victory in the Eastern District of New York for their pro bono client who suffered severe injuries while he was incarcerated as a pretrial detainee. The case involved the application of the Prison Litigation Reform Act, which restricts certain claims by incarcerated individuals. We also acted as co-counsel to the Office of the Appellate Defender in appeals of criminal convictions in New York County State Supreme Court.
